Anxiety
About
Everybody experiences anxiety at some time in their lives. It is a natural response that is useful in helping us avoid dangerous situations and motivating us to solve everyday issues. It is your brain’s way of saying ‘Hey be careful!’ Think back to a time when you did something for the first time such as starting a new job, you may have felt butterflies in your stomach, your heart beat more quickly, and your mind going blank–this is anxiety and is a normal reaction. Anxiety that is more severe, long-lasting and that interferes with your daily life is likely to be an anxiety disorder. There are many different types of anxiety disorder including generalised anxiety disorder(constant worry about various aspects of life), social anxiety disorder (fear of social situations), panic disorder (sudden and intense panic attacks), and specific phobia disorders (intense fear of certain things or situations). Symptoms of anxiety can be physical, psychological and behavioural and include rapid heartbeat, sweating, hyperventilation, dizziness, racing thoughts, mind going blank, decreased memory and concentration, restlessness, sleep disturbances, avoiding situations, excessive checking, distress in social situations or an urge to escape. These are just some of the symptoms associated with anxiety.
How I can help
I use coaching, NLP and hypnotherapy to provide a personalised approach that is aimed at helping you to manage and alleviate anxiety. While each approach has its own unique techniques and strategies, they share common principles that can contribute to anxiety reduction and overall wellbeing. As a coach I will provide support, encouragement and a safe space to discuss your concerns and challenges related to anxiety, we can work on what you want to be different and set goals that can boost your confidence and give you a sense of control. Using NLP we can explore your thought patterns, triggers and past experiences of anxiety with the aim of reducing the emotional charge associated with those experiences and triggers and instead link positive emotions or states to specific cues that can be used when encountering anxiety inducing situations. Finally, using hypnotherapy to induce a deep state of relaxation, which can counter some of the physical effects of anxiety, to provide hypnotic suggestions based on our work together that embeds your new thinking, approaches and techniques to help you better deal with anxious situations and learning new techniques like self-hypnosis that can be used outside of your sessions with me.
These are just some examples of what is in my toolkit. The techniques and approaches used will be tailored to your specific experiences and issues. Generally, people find the approaches of coaching, NLP and hypnotherapy helpful for managing stress, however results will vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed.
I will always take a full history to understand the nature of the issue, how it impacts you and to identify any current treatment plans you are following and what support you have in place.
